A friendly, welcoming, church family

Halberton Methodist Church Vision 2007

Our Mission

To be community; to share the good news of Jesus; to change lives & society;

to build relationships with God & each other; to celebrate Jesus.

We exist to:

“Love one another, as I have loved you”, recognising that people are important, we should be in the local community and we should spend time with not-yet Christians too.

We aim to be: A  church family, a local church, a welcoming church.

Some of the ways we aim to do this & the people responsible for overseeing them:

WORSHIP – Rob & Jane

Prayer:   This should underpin everything we do; we will encourage & develop further the prayer life of our church. We will use prayer chains, prayer coordinators and a quarterly prayer gathering in the first instance.

Teaching & preaching: An area to be addressed, we aim to engage all with more/better teaching, possibly through small groups. We would ask the circuit to encourage local preachers to be trained & supported & have a disciplined approach to improving their skills.

Arts & Drama:    We want to encourage and enable these to be used in worship and church life, to communicate in a variety of ways.

Spiritual Gifts / Gifts Of The Spirit: We want to enable people to discover and use the gifts God gives them, through teaching and creating opportunities for their use.

Working with other Christians, especially St. Andrews: We believe it is important to work and worship with other churches and Christians in Halberton, and the surrounding villages.

Evangelism: We will creatively encourage people to share the good news of Jesus personally and as a church, we will encourage people to pray and to share their own stories(Hope 08)

PASTORAL – Rob & Jacqui

Hospitality: We feel this is vital. We look to develop this – by using homes, sharing more meals ……

Small Groups:      We will regularly review & develop these, recognising that they contribute to the teaching needs of the church. Development could include using a Sunday morning to meet for coffee / prayer / cell groups in various homes (maybe with one in church).

Pastoral Care:      Every church contact should have an assigned pastoral carer; the Church Council recognises & appoints the pastoral team, whose names will be made known publicly. The pastoral team should be supported & given pastoral support.

Evangelism: We will creatively encourage people to share the good news of Jesus personally and as a church, we will encourage people to pray and to share their own stories(Hope 08)

CHILDREN & YOUTH – Anne & Ken, Sue

Children & Young People (inc Child Protection): Our ideal is to provide age appropriate provision (inc. on Sun mornings) for crèche, children, teenagers & adults. [Includes Sunday school, Youth Club, Cell Group] We will support and encourage leaders & leadership.

Toddlers: We support & aim to maintain a Toddler Group to serve our community, adapting the building to improve safety.

Evangelism: We will creatively encourage people to share the good news of Jesus personally and as a church, we will encourage people to pray and to share their own stories(Hope 08)

FINANCE & PROPERTY - Colin

Admin & finance: We will ensure awareness of running costs, practical needs & cost effective ways of giving; make people aware of local, national & international needs and continue to explore biblical teaching on the subject of stewardship.

Property: We aim to upgrade and improve our building, to enhance God’s work and support our community.
